I watched as a little wren struggled to find freedom. Even though we live in sunny Wilmington, in South Eastern, NC, winter had arrived and she was a refugee from the recent cold nights, finding shelter on my screened porch. However, she could not find the open door to release her into the outside world. I don’t know how long she had struggled, but she had grown weary with less flapping, and she sat staring into the woods, but couldn’t navigate the screen. When she fell between the slats, I went to help. Tired and weary, she sat very still as I reached in and cupped my hands around her while I soothed her with my voice. “You’re ok, you’re ok.”
I wonder if this resonates with you today? Are you hurrying and going about your business, checking boxes at the speed of sound, feeling like a prisoner of your own pace?
Like my wren, you can’t seem to find the open doors of rest and peaceful days and a normal life rhythm seems to elude you. Perhaps you need Jesus to simply remind you, “You’re ok, you’re ok, you’re ok!”
I walked to the porch door, uncupped my hands, and released the tired wren to her freedom.
Friends, Jesus provides the same door for each of us. He is available to help, but beckons us to unburden ourselves and receive his rest. May we all be comforted today in like manner.
Matt: 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
You’re ok
