Marisela Shults
LMFTA (Wilmington & Telehealth)
Hi there! My name is Marisela, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate (LMFTA) with a heart for helping youth, adults, and couples find healing and grow into who they were created to be. I want to begin by acknowledging that choosing to seek help is not always an easy decision, but it is a powerful step toward healing and wholeness. I am grateful you are here and taking this step toward the life God desires for you.
I am passionate about supporting children, teens, and adults who are struggling with low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, self-harm, or thoughts of suicide. I am also dedicated to helping couples strengthen their relationships and navigate challenges related to premarital or marital stress, intimacy, infidelity, communication, boundaries, conflict, and life transitions. I understand that our minds can sometimes feel like a dark place, filled with thoughts that leave us feeling fearful, trapped, or alone. My goal is to walk alongside you, integrating therapeutic approaches with biblical principles to help bring those thoughts into the light and guide you toward a life filled with peace, confidence, and renewed purpose.
I have always felt called to a helping profession. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy from East Carolina University, which allows me to integrate creative, activity-based interventions such as expressive arts, journaling, games, and music into the therapeutic process. I later earned my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate (LMFTA). Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of mental health settings, supporting youth and families as they navigate life’s challenges and develop skills in emotional regulation, stress management, effective communication, healthy boundaries, and conflict resolution.
I believe God created us for connection and therefore I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and faith-centered space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. In our work together, I take a person-centered and collaborative approach, meeting you where you are and helping you discover the resilience and hope God has placed within you. I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment-Based Therapy (ABT), Motivational Interviewing, Recreational Therapy, and Christian Counseling to help you strengthen your relationship with God, yourself, and those around you.
Whether you are feeling weighed down by everyday stress, walking through a difficult season, or simply feeling lost and unsure of your next step, I would be honored to walk alongside you on your healing journey.
