I am spending some Gigi time with my granddaughter today. She’s a 6th grader now; and this is a big year! Lately, she has been more challenging to her parents, someone they don’t recognize as easily, because her emotions lead the way! “Who are you?” they humorously have thought! And, although her parents are strong, they still feel some exasperation with these new challenges.

I’m so thankful that we are known by Jesus, not merely recognized but deeply KNOWN.  Because of this, Psalm 121:8 reminds us that he knows our “comings and goings”. Likewise, Psalm 139:3 reminds us that He “searches our path and our lying down and is aware of all of our ways.” Friends, He also KNOWS our heart and loves us unconditionally, in spite of ourselves!

Scripture also reminds us to “overcome evil with good!” It’s hard for a tired parent to remember this truth in an exasperating moment, but oh how it disarms the enemy and teaches the child about God’s grace.

We know our granddaughter too! We held her just a few hours after her birth and looked into her baby blue eyes that belong to her Gopa. We have been part of her life for these 11 years and have cheered her on to greatness. And even through change, we know to whom she belongs! She just needs a reminder on tough days and some encouragement. Don’t we all?

Practicing this principle will indeed change defeat into victory and this is not just reserved for the weary parent. Because, we all know someone who needs to be reminded of God’s grace today.
