I am laughing again, even as I write, and it’s a belly laugh out loud, kinda laugh. My son posted a video from yesterday, where my grandchildren were playing quietly, and he crept to the door, tossing in one of those battery-operated weasels attached to a rolling ball.
The reaction was priceless!… screaming and jumping kiddos reacting to their dad’s joke!
But the video also captures his own laughter! I remember a time in his past when we did the exact thing and achieved the same result! It reminded me that the call to parent is not for the weak at heart! And as the world changes, todays parents are even more challenged to be keepers of the peace in their homes.
In those difficult moments, laughter often disarms the tension! Solomon, the wisest of all men, captures this beautifully in Proverbs 17:22, where he reminds us that “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Choosing to laugh over arguments and take defensive postures, helps to reset the moment and allow reasoning to take a breath!
LOL.. we may use this acronym every day in our text and email responses, but do we pay attention to its impact on our moods, headspace, and relational struggles?
I love that our son found a way to disarm the enemy yesterday. They are raising a tween after all, and emotions soar!
Not everything in life has to be serious, and we can all use a few moments to reframe and regather.
I hope you find a moment to laugh today, even in your challenges. Pay attention and watch the impact it has on your own soul too!
