I got to stand in on an archery lesson at the camp’s range today. The phrase, ” straight as an arrow” took on new meaning as I observed the training. The leader was careful to give the safety rules, to point out the “do not cross line”, the way to hold the bow and how to place the arrow in it.  Did you know there is a specific way to line the arrow?  There is always one unique feather, it’s called a cock feather, it serves as a visual or tactical reference point.  Who knew?

Then the leader gave careful tips in alignment, stance and when to breathe. 

The first round of arrows that went down range were wildly undisciplined.  But as the leader instructed, the kids began to focus in on the target.  They were becoming more disciplined, more controlled, better trained with each arrow that flew.

The shrill of excitement came when the first camper hit the bulls eye.  It impacted the whole group!

As I ponder this process, I’m asking, how am I living?

What training are we receiving right now?  Where are we growing?

It’s one thing to prepare for others but, what about personal growth?

We read in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be complete equipped for every good work.”

This passage reminds me that a heart of learning is His desire for us. God, through His Word, is equipping us, are we in it?  It’s training us, are we practicing?  And, He is teaching us to breathe, to rest knowing He is in control.
