Keep a safe distance!

July 23, 2026

Interstate driving is challenging to the most careful of drivers. When I was in high school, Drivers Ed taught the IPDE process… Identify, Predict, Decide, Execute.. that instructed drivers to follow a 3 second rule for a safe distance for better judgment. Impossible when an eighteen wheeler jerks in front of you!  There is no distance to make any decisions and you may even miss your exit for lack of sight.

God was very specific through Joshua, when Israel crossed the Jordan. The ark was to move first, then Israel. Verse 4 tells us that the people were to follow at 2 thousand cubic measures. That measures half a mile! Furthermore it says,” there shall be a space between you and it.. so that you may know the way to go, for you have not passed this way before.” For 3.5 million people to see the way clearly, the Ark would have needed this distance for them to keep their eyes set on it.

What a beautiful picture for how we need to follow God in our life. Joshua also commanded them to sanctify themselves, to make ready for the crossing so that they would be right before God.

So true for life’s highways today, isn’t it? Being prepared to follow God first is important. Yet, keeping a safe distance from blinding obstacles is the challenge.

Are you prepared for the road ahead of you?  How is your driving and what do you see? Transitions can be challenging!

Enjoy the journey but don’t miss the specifics!
