Sue Stephens

LCMHC (intern)

Sue Stephens is attending Colorado Christian University to obtain a master’s in clinical
mental health counseling and holds a bachelor’s in psychology with an emphasis on
counseling. For many years, Sue worked in nursing, knowing she was meant to serve
others at an early age. She often felt mental health was limited, because of the stigma
that comes with it. Recent events and issues in society have placed a greater need for
mental health, and it can be visually seen in culture today. Sue wants to demystify the
stigma of mental health care and its importance in one’s life. With empathy and non-
judgment, Sue comes alongside her clients and offers hope, help to thrive, practical
strategies for building coping skills, and awareness of one’s uniqueness.

Sue is passionate about suicide awareness and prevention while working with those
who feel stuck in life with anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-care, grief, and
spiritual issues. Sue utilizes different therapies that work best for the client. Sue’s
primary focus is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical therapy (DBT),
however, Sue is experienced in existential therapy and the wellness model, a holistic
approach that encourages current clients to participate in healthy activities to strengthen
their minds and body to prevent illnesses.
